A study conducted by AGROSAVIA and UPTC in Colombia has found that the use of edible coatings, specifically Proallium Brill®, can significantly extend the shelf life of guava fruits. The coating, which is non-toxic and semi-permeable, did not affect the fruit's respiratory rate, maturity index, or total titratable acidity, but maintained the fruit's firmness, shine, color, and reduced weight loss. The study tested different concentrations of the coating and found that a concentration of 21 grams per liter was most effective in preserving the fruit's quality attributes after 16 days of storage.
