The World Citrus Organization (WCO) has predicted a decrease in northern hemisphere citrus production for the 2024-25 season, estimating a total of 27,297,216 tons, which is an 8.73% drop from the previous season. This decrease is largely due to Turkey's normal production after a record season and an expected decline in Egypt. The total citrus exports are also expected to decrease by 8.94% compared to the previous season. The report also highlights potential threats such as climatic problems, geopolitical instability, and consumer demand pressures. Notably, Spain, Italy, and Egypt are projected to experience significant decreases in production, while Morocco's production is expected to increase.
