In 2020, North Rhine-Westphalian manufacturing companies in Germany saw a significant increase in the production of vegetarian and vegan food preparations, with a production volume of 10,982 tons and a value of 38.5 million euros, a 70.7% and 57.9% increase from the previous year respectively. The production of soybeans and oats also saw a surge, with imports of soybeans increasing by 57.5% and oats by 12.0%. The cultivation area for soybeans more than quadrupled between 2016 and 2020, leading to a significant increase in harvested soybeans. However, there is an expected decrease in the acreage for soybeans for 2021, and while the preliminary provisional harvest of oats in 2021 is higher than in 2020, it is lower than in 2015.
