Researchers at the WUR Laboratory for Plant Breeding in the Netherlands Plant Eco-phenotyping Center have discovered that two quinoa varieties, Pasto and selRiobamba, have different strategies for dealing with salt stress. The Pasto variety conserves water, limiting its uptake and growth, while selRiobamba is more aggressive in absorbing water. This finding is crucial for plant breeders in the development of new salt-tolerant crops, as salinization of agricultural land is on the rise worldwide.
