According to the Peruvian Commission for the Promotion of Exports and Tourism (PROMPERU), Peruvian fruit and vegetable exports to the United Kingdom surpassed USD 285.8 million in 2021. Last year’s exports to the United Kingdom represented a 32% increase in four years. The increase in UK imports from Peru occurred due to a greater emphasis on healthy eating since the COVID 19 pandemic started. Over 30% of British adults are increasing their consumption of healthy products, and 20% of British consumers revealed they now look for products that boost their immune system.
Forecasts indicate that Peruvian fruit and vegetable exports will grow even further in 2022. According to the Peruvian Ministry of Agricultural Development and Irrigation (MIDAGRI), Peruvian agricultural exports reached USD 9 billion in 2021, representing a 15.8% YoY increase. Peruvian fruit exports reached USD 4.5 billion in 2021, and vegetable exports reached USD 925.6 million, representing a 15% increase YoY and a 4.4% increase YoY respectively. The products of interest for UK buyers such as avocados, blueberries, mangos, grapes, and asparagus, also showed a positive trend in 2021.

The Peruvian avocado export value to the United Kingdom grew by 19.3% YoY, from USD 63.6 M in 2020 to USD 75.9 M in 2021. The export value of Peruvian blueberries increased by 2.8% YOY, increasing from USD 68.9 M in 2020 to an estimated value of USD 70.8 M in 2021. Peruvian mangoes showed a 7.2% YoY increase from USD 16.6 M in 2020 to an estimated value of USD 17.8 M in 2021. Peruvian grape exports to the United Kingdom surged by 7.3 YoY from USD 56 M in 2020 to an estimated value of 60.1 M in 2021. Finally, Peruvian asparagus showed a 3.5% export value increase to the United Kingdom from USD 51.3 M in 2020 to an estimated value of USD 53.1 M in 2021. The 2022 Peruvian fruit and vegetable exports to the United Kingdom are forecast to increase by a similar percentage to last year.
