Brazil's Peanut Farming Industry Shifts towards Advanced Technologies and Quality Standards

Brazil's peanut farming industry has undergone a significant transformation, shifting towards more advanced technologies and higher quality standards, driven by the increasing export demand and higher consumer expectations. As a result, the country's peanut cultivation area has increased fourfold, from 7.93 thousand hectares (ha) in the 2015/16 season to 32.32 ha in the 2023/24 season. Accounting for 90% of the country's peanut plantations, São Paulo has led this shift by adopting certified seeds from reputable institutions such as Embrapa Algodão and the Campinas Agronomic Institute (IAC). Currently, 65% to 70% of the cultivation area in Brazil uses certified seeds. The industry focuses on increasing domestic consumption to reduce its reliance on exports.

Prosperous Winter-Spring Peanut Crop Season in Trà Vinh, Vietnam

Peanut farmers in the Trà Vinh region of Vietnam are experiencing a prosperous winter-spring peanut crop season, with productivity and prices significantly rising from the previous year. The selling price of peanuts has almost doubled from 2023 to USD 0.59 to USD 0.7 per kilogram (VND 15,000 to 18,000/kg). Additionally, the average yield has improved to 9.5 metric tons (mt) per ha, an increase of 2 mt/ha compared to the yield in 2023 due to mist irrigation techniques. This has resulted in a notable profit of about USD 1950/ha (VND 50 million/ha) for the farmers after just over two months of cultivation. Notably, over 5 thousand ha of high-yield peanut varieties were planted in the current season, taking over areas previously dedicated to rice due to water scarcity issues.
