Durian Thai growers are expected to sell over USD 1.6 billion (THB 65 billion) of durian, with a selling price of USD 3.06 per kilogram (THB 107.17/kg). Total durian sales in Thailand are expected to be 1.09 million tons, with annual production in the south reaching 598.8 thousand tons and exporting 479 thousand tons. The National Agricultural Products and Food Standards Agency will publish mandatory guidelines for durian fruit collection and packaging plants in August 2024.
China's durian imports in the first six months of 2023 reached 787 thousand metric tons (mt) and USD 3.83 billion, a 57.1% and 64.9% year-on-year (YoY) increase. China is the world's largest importer and consumer of durians, accounting for 82% of global consumption. The majority of durians are sourced from Thailand, Vietnam, and the Philippines. Thai durians dominated the Chinese market in the first half of 2023, with 600 thousand mt exported.
Lastly, Vietnam Fruit and Vegetable Association reports increased Vietnamese durian prices due to competition for export to China. A survey in the Binh Thanh and Tân Bình districts revealed a USD 0.42/kg (VND 10,000/kg) increase in durian prices.
