The European Apple Season Is Poland’s Most Difficult (Dec 20)
The 2022 trade campaign for European apples is one of the toughest in recent history, according to one of the category's leading suppliers. The president of the Trade Association of Apple and Pear Growers (WAPA), Dominik Wozniak, said the situation for producers and exporters in Poland has been extremely complicated. The difficulties that producers have faced in recent months are similar to the problems that have affected other European countries, such as rising costs of logistics, energy, and fertilizers. Although Polish production numbers are positive, 2022 will be remembered by producers as one of the most difficult in recent years.
Export of Polish Apples Is Less to the West, More to the East (Dec 21)
The abundance of apples and their low prices in Western Europe resulted in lower exports from Poland to the EU markets although there are exceptions. Looking at the total exports, there was also good news since more fresh apples were exported to the Middle and Far East. In the current season, lower exports of apples were destined for the key markets so far: Egypt and Belarus. The decrease in the volumes shipped was not the fault of fruit growers or exporters but in fact the aftermath of great politics.
Russia
Russia Reduces Imports of Apples (Dec 23)
In Russia, a decrease in the import of apples from abroad was recorded. According to the report, if in less than 11 months of last year, the volume of imports amounted to 777K MT, then for the same period in 2022, it fell to 592K MT, down 24%. According to the Ministry of Agriculture of the Russian Federation, imports from 12 countries (and a total of apples are imported from 20 countries) to Russia have decreased. Thus, Moldova, one of the key exporters of fruits and vegetables into the Russian Federation, has been reducing its shipments for the last 4 years.
South Korea
Apple and Pear Production Increased (Dec 21)
The harvest of apples and pears increased due to the summer without major weather disasters. According to the results of 2022, apple production was 566.0K MT, up 9.7% from the previous year (515.9K MT), and pear production was 251.1K MT, up 20% (19.4%) from the previous year (210.3K MT).
Colombia
Prices for Imported Apples and Pears Continue to Increase During W48 in Colombia (Dec 19)
During W48, the price of royal apples and imported pears increased. The price increased in 21 of 35 wholesale markets due to the shortage of products from Chile and the high demand for the product. In Popayán, green apples ranged around USD 1.64/kg, 4.08% more than in W47.
Price Increase of Red Delicious Apple Imports During W50 in Colombia (Dec 19)
During W50, in Colombia, the price of red delicious apple imports increased in 33 markets that offered this product. The increase was due to the volume reduction in products imported from Chile and its high turnover. In Bogota, the price was USD 1.86/kg (COP 8,876/kg), 7.4% more than W49.
