Banana production from the Asian countries represents 54% of the total market, followed by America (26.2%) and Africa (17.8%). Since the last decade, China and India have been top producing countries, accounting for more than 40% of the global production. The majority of bananas produced in China and India are consumed domestically, whereas the Philippines is responsible for supplying bananas to the international markets. In 2021, there is ongoing high demand for Ecuadorian plantains in the US. Approximately 70% of Ecuador's plantain is being exported to the USA. Interestingly the state of New York leads the market by generating the highest demand of Ecuadorian plantains nationwide.
