Turkiye: 14 thousand tons of Bursa black fig export targeted this year

This year, approximately 14 thousand tons of exports are targeted for "Bursa black", which is considered the highest quality fig in the world with its long shelf life, large appearance and taste and has even entered the kitchen of the British Royal family. Due to the weather temperatures being above seasonal norms, the harvest of the fruit, which has a geographical indication registered by the Turkish Patent and Trademark Office under the name "Bursa black fig", started as of August 6 and its exports started after August 8. In addition to Europe, Bursa black is sent to Middle Eastern countries, Russia, Dubai and Hong Kong, a 30 thousand ton yield is expected this year. Uludağ Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Exporters' Association (UYMSİB) President Senih Yazgan told AA correspondent that normally the cutting and export of Bursa black figs start in the third week of August, but this year, these dates were pushed back two weeks due to the weather temperatures being above seasonal norms. ...
