The Ministry of Agriculture in South Korea is planning to import 1.21 million fresh eggs from Spain as a trial due to the spread of highly pathogenic avian influenza in laying hen farms, caused by migratory birds. The imported eggs will undergo sanitary inspection in both the exporting country and domestically before being supplied to Homeplus and food material companies for consumer purchase. The government also intends to reduce the supply of fresh eggs from the U.S. states where AI has not occurred, and will release 15 million eggs from its stockpile during the Lunar New Year season to stabilize domestic egg prices.
