Spain has seen a doubling of meat companies authorized to export pork to China, reaching 57 in 2020, with 48 being members of the National Association of Meat Industries of Spain (ANICE). As many as 150 companies have applied for inclusion, potentially taking the total to over 200. In 2019, Spain became the leading pork exporter to China among EU countries. The Ministry of Agriculture is evaluating Covid-19 requirements for Chinese imports. Meanwhile, Thailand, Malaysia, and Singapore present diverse opportunities for Spanish meat exports, with Malaysia requiring 100% halal production. Spain is also looking to improve its beef export presence in these markets, currently dominated by Australia and New Zealand.
