African swine fever (ASF) continues to spread in Penang state, Malaysia, with seven more pig farms hit, bringing the total number of farms affected by the outbreak so far to 18 across three districts. Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow said 48,194 animals were affected in these commercial pig productions. In order to control and prevent the spread of ASF, Penang Department of Veterinary Services (DVS) is conducting an eradication policy by culling infected pigs on farms or those suspected of being infected in the infection zone. The state government has identified a 16-hectare piece of land to be used as a disposal site. Penang's pork supply is secure and still sufficient to meet the population's needs.
