In the 2020/2021 season, global pistachio production reached a record high of 985,000 tons, marking a 40% increase from the previous year, with the United States and Turkey being the primary contributors. The United States is projected to see a 42% increase in output, reaching 476,000 tons, while Turkey's production nearly tripled to 250,000 tons. Despite a 7% drop in production, Iran's pistachio exports increased by 15%. The European Union is expecting a decrease in pistachio production due to reduced cultivation in Spain and Italy, leading to increased imports, primarily from the United States. China has introduced a tariff exemption policy for pistachios imported from the United States, which is expected to boost imports.
