In 2022, China saw a 4% increase in fruit imports, reaching 7.30 million metric tons and valued at $14.53 billion. Despite being the world's largest fruit exporter, its fruit exports experienced an 8% decrease to 3.26 million metric tons, valued at $4.62 billion. Fresh apples remained the most exported fruit, but there was a significant decrease due to the COVID-19 pandemic, lower harvest, and decreased stocks. The top five markets for Chinese apple exports were Indonesia, Vietnam, Bangladesh, Thailand, and the Philippines, but there was a sharp decrease in exports to Bangladesh and the Philippines. China also imported 95,500 metric tons of fresh apples, a 40.44% increase from the previous year, with New Zealand being the largest supplier.
