China's raw milk production is projected to increase by 6.7% in 2023, despite high production costs and declining profitability in dairy farming. Meanwhile, dairy imports have decreased for the second consecutive year. The country has made strides in dairy cattle breeding, disease prevention, and control, with advancements in genetic assessment platforms, breeding standards, and the development of new veterinary drugs. However, challenges persist, including high disease incidence rates and a lack of attention to disease purification. The article calls for more investment in R&D for traditional Chinese veterinary medicine, the development of energy-saving and intelligent cowshed facilities, and the mechanization of dairy farms.
