The government has allowed the importation of 50,000 tons of sugar for January and February to address a shortage caused by decreased domestic production due to heavy rains. The Minister of Agriculture, Hussin Bashe, assured consumers that production would increase within 30-60 days despite higher prices due to the production decrease. Despite the challenge of temporary rain, the government aims to reach 550,000 tons of domestic sugar production this year to meet the demand of 460,000-550,000 tons.
