The Cappadocia region in Turkey is expected to store around 2.1 million tons of potatoes in 2024, due to a production of 6.5 million tons across 1.6 million hectares of land, which is double the annual consumption in the country. The surplus, along with challenges such as low prices and potential waste, are causing concerns for the potato industry. Currently, exports are made to several countries, but high customs duties in Azerbaijan are affecting the market. The Chamber of Agriculture is warning of potential waste of around 600 thousand tons and predicts price increases and the need to import potatoes in 2025.
