Approximately 98 percent of paddy transplantation has been completed across Nepal, covering around 1.372 million hectares of the 1.4 million hectares suitable for paddy cultivation, an eight percent increase from the previous year, due to favorable rainfall. The Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development expects an increase in rice production by about six percent this year, which is likely to decrease imports of rice and paddy further, following a decrease of around Rs 13 billion in the previous fiscal year.
