Midday cash livestock markets in the US

A light direct cash cattle trade has developed in the North. Dressed deals are marked at $290, fully steady with the previous week’s weighted average basis in Nebraska. Some live deals in the North are at $184. Some additional cleanup business is expected in the South at some point today. For the week, deals in the South were at $178 live, steady to $1 below the prior week’s business. Boxed beef is lower at midday on light demand for moderate offerings. Choice is $2.07 lower at $317.80 and Select is $1.80 lower at $288.17. The Choice/Select spread is $29.63. In Nebraska last week, feeder calves sold sharply higher compared to the previous week’s test. Feeder cattle were met with good to very good demand. Prices were strong across the board. Drought conditions continue to vary across the state. Receipts were up for the week and down for the year. Feeder supply included 53% steers and 76% of the offering was over 600 pounds.
