Core tip: Recently, longan growers are urging the Thai Ministry of Commerce to negotiate with China to relax the new sulfur dioxide (SO2) testing standards. In late August, over 10 containers of longans were rejected by China as the sulfur content was detected to exceed 50 ppm. Meanwhile, the Thai Ministry of Commerce is waiting for the outcome of negotiations with the Chinese government, requesting a relaxation of the random inspection requirement that "the fruit content should not exceed 50 ppm (0.05 g/kg)."
