Turkey: A record 923 percent increase in poppy seed exports

White poppy, one of Turkey's traditional export products, set out for India after a 2.5-year hiatus. While Turkey exported 15 thousand 712 tons of white poppy to India in May and June of 2022, it earned 67 million 380 thousand dollars in foreign currency income. Poppy seed exports, which were 7.9 million dollars in the first half of 2021, climbed to 81 million dollars with a record increase of 923 percent with the opening of the Indian market in the January-June period of 2022. Informing that the biggest export market of Turkish white poppy is India, Aegean Cereals, Pulses, Oilseeds and Products Exporters' Association President Muhammet Öztürk shared the information that exports, which had been interrupted for 2.5 years due to the pandemic, started again in May 2022.
