Mykhailo Radutskyi, Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Committee, is advocating for a new tax on sweet carbonated beverages to combat their excessive consumption. This tax is part of a dialogue to balance the interests of society, consumers, and producers, following the lead of over 65 countries, including Kazakhstan and Israel, that have already implemented such taxes. The World Health Organization (WHO) supports this measure, stating that a 20% price increase leads to reduced consumption and encourages the shift to healthier options. The rapid absorption of sugar from beverages, especially carbonated ones, can lead to a range of health issues, including diabetes, cardiovascular disorders, and gastrointestinal diseases.
