Hussein Abdel Rahman Abu Saddam, the head of the General Farmers Syndicate, has highlighted the potential for Egypt, especially the southern Upper Egypt region, to become a significant hub for cocoa cultivation, leveraging its climate similarities with West Africa, the leading cocoa-producing area globally. With cocoa prices at $10,000 per ton, this venture promises substantial economic benefits. Abdel Rahman pointed out that the climate in Aswan, Luxor, and Qena is ideal for cocoa trees, which thrive in moist, high-temperature environments with well-drained soil. He advocated for the support of the Agricultural Research Center and the Ministry of Agriculture in promoting cocoa cultivation through research, farmer education, and the provision of appropriate seeds and seedlings, emphasizing the economic and health advantages of cocoa and addressing the challenges faced by traditional cocoa-producing regions.
