The latest ABARES commodities outlook predicts a decrease in saleyard lamb and sheep prices for the 2022-23 season due to increased supply and diminished consumer demand, but expects a rebound in the medium term. Wool prices, however, are forecast to surge by 11% to 1443 cents per kilogram in 2023–24, influenced by weather conditions. Despite the flood impacts, Australia's gross value of agricultural production is expected to reach $90 million in 2022-23, largely due to gains in cropping. However, farm cash income for broadacre farms is projected to drop by 7% to $327,000 per farm in 2022-23. Live sheep exports are anticipated to increase by 6% in 2022-23, reaching 520,000 head, but are expected to decline thereafter due to economic factors and the decline in the Western Australian flock.
