Brazil: Abrafrigo makes itself available to China in investigations into beef imports

The Brazilian Meatpacking Association (Abrafrigo), an entity that brings together Brazilian beef producers and exporters, reports that it became aware this Friday (27) of the Announcement No. 60 of the Ministry of Commerce of the People's Republic of China, published today. The document refers to the opening of an investigation procedure on safeguard measures on beef imports from that country. The note from Abrafrigo recalls that the procedure to open the investigation was approved by the Ministry of Commerce, based on a preliminary analysis of information in response to a request from Chinese livestock associations, based on arguments that refer to a possible drastic increase in beef imports into the Asian country in the period between 2019 and the first half of 2024. The investigation process will have a deadline of 8 months to be concluded, and may be extended.
