Caldera artisanal fishermen celebrated the activation of a 12,500-ton contingency quota for horse mackerel by the Undersecretariat of Fisheries and Aquaculture (Subpesca) with a frying of the fish. The event, attended by hundreds, was a way to express gratitude and enjoy the economic benefits the quota has brought to the community. The quota, a result of Chile receiving 25,000 tons of horse mackerel from China, is expected to revitalize the local economy and benefit both the fishermen and their families.
