In 2024, Paraná confirmed 227 rabies outbreaks, with more than half in the regional offices of Cascavel and Laranjeiras do Sul. Rabies vaccination becomes mandatory in 30 municipalities of Western Paraná starting this Thursday (25). The measure, made official by portary nº 368/2025 of the Paraná Agricultural Defense Agency (Adapar), covers domestic herbivores aged three months and older, including buffalos, cattle, horses, donkeys, mules, sheep, and goats. According to the Animal Health Department (Desa) of Adapar, the choice of municipalities considers factors such as the number of outbreaks recorded in recent years, proximity to the Iguaçu National Park, the occurrence of shared transmission areas, and the high number of people who needed treatment after contact with suspected animals.
