A recent report by the IMEA (Mato-Grossense Institute of Agricultural Economics) has provided an update on the progress of the 2023 corn crop in Mato Grosso, Brazil. The report highlights that 30.04% of the total production has been sown, with 96.44% of the crops being sown within the ideal window. However, the progress of negotiations for the 2023/24 season is behind schedule by 4.73 percentage points, attributed to a delay in the marketing of inputs. Despite the progress in planting, this represents a delay of 1.51 percentage points compared to the same period in the previous harvest, but is slightly ahead of the average of the last five seasons. Additionally, the report notes a decrease in the negotiated price for corn, by 3.07% compared to January, due to a fall in quotations on the Chicago Stock Exchange.
