The chairman of the Chamber of Commerce of Mozambique (CCM), Álvaro Massingue, has urged commercial banks to provide affordable agriculture credit lines to support the sector, which employs 80% of the economically active population. Massingue highlighted that many credit applications from small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in the agricultural sector have been rejected. He proposed the creation of an agricultural guarantee fund or insurance coverage for agricultural risks. He also called on the government to develop fiscal policies and strategies that enhance the agricultural value chain. Massingue expressed concerns about a new fee on water boreholes, stating it could negatively impact agriculture development.
