Egypt: Approval to import 238 thousand tons of potato seeds for the current season

Dr. Ahmed Essam, Head of the Services and Follow-up Sector and Head of the Agricultural Crops Seeds Committee, confirmed that the committee had received requests to import potato seeds for the 2024/2025 agricultural season during the period from 8/15/2024 to 9/15/2024, with a total of 258 thousand tons represented by "105 import companies", and that the committee had already issued approvals for a total of 238 thousand tons in favor of 103 companies. Essam indicated that the last date for shipping from the country of origin is 12/23/2024, and thus the last shipment to arrive at Egyptian ports will be approximately 15:20 days after the date of the last shipment from the country of origin. He added that the actual import of potato seeds to date is 32 thousand tons, and therefore it is too early to talk about seed prices this season, as the entire quantity has not arrived and is expected to be no less than 135 thousand tons.
