Egypt: We seek to increase the area of the flax crop to 70 thousand acres

Dr. Amani Al-Rifai, Head of the Fiber Research Department at the Field Crops Research Institute at the Agricultural Research Center, said in a statement to “Akhbar Al-Youm Gate” that flax is an industrial agricultural crop and the best time to plant it is the last week of October until mid-November and does not exceed the third week of November so as not to affect the crop’s shortage of seeds and fibers. She added that one acre needs about 60 to 70 kilograms depending on the planting method and the planted variety, as the fibrous varieties with row planting need 50 kilograms with sowing need 60 kilograms, while the dual varieties with row planting need 60 kilograms and with sowing need 70 kilograms. She explained that the most important local varieties are Giza 9, Giza 13, and Sakha 3, which follow the fibrous models, as well as Giza 11, Giza 12, and Sakha 6, which follow the dual models, while Sakha 5 is considered an oil model.
