Strawberry prices increase 50% in the US

Strawberry prices rose approximately 50% in week 44 in the North American market. Supplies from Santa Maria-Oxnard, California, are entering their peak harvest period. According to Steve Johnston of G.W. Palmer & Co. Inc, these strawberries were planted at the end of May, and although the volume of the crop is not considerable, it is reaching its peak. This trend is expected to continue until the beginning of the year, barring adverse weather conditions, especially the start of the rainy season in November. In contrast, the Salinas-Watsonville region of California is gradually wrapping up its harvest for the season. In Mexico, strawberry production is beginning, and it seems that it starts earlier every year. Production is still at a relatively low level, volumes will continue to arrive in dribs and drabs over the next few weeks, but the season will probably end in mid-November.
