Ahead of the winter kimchi-making season, the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries has announced a special inspection of the origin labeling of seafood products. The Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries stated that it will conduct a special inspection of the origin labeling of seafood products until December 5 to ensure that consumers can purchase seafood with peace of mind. This inspection focuses on pickled seafood items such as sea salt, shrimp, oysters, and anchovies, which are in high demand as kimchi ingredients, and on frozen pollock, mackerel, squid, monkfish, and conch, whose import volume increases significantly in winter and which are suspected of origin misrepresentation. The inspection targets include markets for pickled seafood, companies distributing and selling salt, seafood handling companies, and mail-order companies. The inspection will involve special judicial police officers from the National Fisheries Quality Management Institute and honorary seafood inspectors.
