Portugal: Algarve orange with a 50% drop in summer production

Summer orange production in the Algarve fell by 50%. The Algarve Citrus Growers Agricultural Cooperative (CACIAL) notes that only imported oranges prevented the activity from completely stopping from August to November. “The previous [season] proved to be a campaign with just a few kilograms, in the last variety, which is the summer variety. There was 50% less than the normal quantity”, explained the director of CACIAL, Horácio Ferreira, to the Lusa agency, stressing that this drop led to the cooperative being “stopped with national orange in August, September, October and a good part from November".
