Spain's almond production is projected to increase by 17.5% in the 2024/2025 campaign, reaching 373,558 tonnes, which is 9.1% above the average of the last five campaigns. The country, which is the world's second-largest almond producer, accounts for 85% of the total area dedicated to nut cultivation in Spain. However, the production increase is not uniform across all regions, with some experiencing significant growth while others have seen declines due to weather conditions. Almonds contribute 90% to the total value of nuts exported by Spain, achieving a positive trade balance of 188 million euros last season. From January 1, 2025, it will be mandatory to label the country of origin on product labels. However, UPA has expressed disagreement with the Ministry of Agriculture's figures, stating that they fail to address the challenges faced by family farms and have called for a correction.
