A fire at a livestock farm in the Tatarsky District of the Novosibirsk Region has resulted in the death of 27 calves and the destruction of a calf barn covering 550 square meters. This incident underscores the broader challenges facing Russia's agricultural sector, including a decline in cattle numbers, increased reliance on imported beef, and rising production costs. These factors, coupled with stricter regulations and the high cost of milk production, are pushing farmers towards abandoning dairy herds in favor of crop production. This situation is further complicated by the rising costs of feed and equipment due to economic sanctions and exchange rate fluctuations. Additionally, the region has seen 31 house fires in a week, with four fatalities, attributed to negligence and improper use of appliances.
