According to the Foreign Agricultural Service (FAS) of the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), Taiwan continues to rely on imports to meet the demand for fresh produce, particularly fruits, vegetables, and nuts, due to the limited agricultural land and high consumer demand. Fruits Fresh fruits remain one of the main horticultural products exported by the United States to Taiwan. Apples are the flagship product. In 2024, Taiwan imported approximately 156,000 tons of apples, of which about 63,600 tons came from the United States, representing a 41% share of total imports. Other key fruits exported to Taiwan include cherries, grapes, peaches, plums, and citrus fruits. Nuts Nuts constitute another significant category. Almonds, pistachios, and walnuts are widely sold in retail and used in snacks and food processing. Demand for these products remains stable throughout the year. Vegetables Vegetables are part of Taiwan's imported produce supply, especially when local production is limited. Imports help maintain a steady availability of fresh vegetables in supermarkets and restaurants. Market Taiwan was the eighth market for U.S. agricultural exports in 2024, with total shipments valued at approximately $3.8 billion. Strong purchasing power and steady demand continue to support imports of fruits, vegetables, and nuts. Read the full report here. Source: fas.usda.gov Photo: wikipedia.org
