REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Head of the National Food Agency (Bapanas) Amran Sulaiman stated that Indonesia has achieved self-sufficiency in nine strategic food commodities. He made the statement while opening the National Simultaneous Cheap Food Movement at the Ministry of Agriculture headquarters in Jakarta, Friday (13/2/2026). Amran presented the production and stock of food in surplus conditions ahead of Ramadan, Idul Fitri 1447 Hijriyah, Chinese New Year, and Nyepi 2026. Rice, feed corn, shallots, chilies, eggs, and chicken have met national needs, and some have even been exported. “Ladies and gentlemen, we are now self-sufficient in nine commodities. Rice, feed corn is no longer imported, then shallots, chilies, eggs, chicken, we are self-sufficient,” said the Head of Bapanas. Amran added that three commodities still depend on imports, namely soybeans, garlic, and cattle.
