The Association of Wheat and Flour Producers of Georgia has presented a set of measures to the government aimed at preventing a rise in bread prices. The measures include a tax on flour import, fixed prices for popular bread types, guaranteed grain purchase from local farmers, and creating 2-month grain reserves. The association believes these measures will benefit all parties by creating a competitive environment, ensuring bread affordability, saving jobs, securing local grain crop sales, and contributing to budget revenue growth. This follows the halt of all flour mills in the republic due to increased imported wheat costs.
