In 2022, Peru ranked as the world's leading mango exporter, shipping out 256,456.27 tons to international markets, with a total export value of over $294 million. The Netherlands emerged as the top buyer, followed by the United States, the United Kingdom, and Spain. The northern Peruvian region, particularly Piura, was the country's second-largest mango producer, contributing to 20% of the total production. Premier quality mangoes from Ancash, famous for their red veneer, were exported for $49.9 million. However, the mango campaign in Ancash faced challenges in 2023 due to a water crisis and difficulties in pricing, with farmers expressing dissatisfaction over the low farm gate prices, especially for mangoes exported by sea. The technical support organization, SEDIR, is providing assistance to small producers in Ancash to address these challenges.
