In September 2021, Georgia achieved a record high in potato exports, totaling 6.2 thousand tons, primarily to Russia and Azerbaijan, making up 83% and 45% of the total export volume respectively. The remaining 17% was exported to Ukraine, Moldova, Armenia, and Slovenia. The price per ton for Russian exports was significantly higher, at $430, compared to other countries like Armenia which paid $280. This situation is attributed to the challenging harvest conditions in Russia, which have increased the demand for potatoes and driven up prices. This trend is anticipated to persist, potentially leading to higher potato prices for the Georgian market as exports to Russia continue to rise, despite the risk of increased prices for local consumers.
