The 2020/21 garlic growing season in Andalusia saw a 3% increase in area cultivated and a 5% rise in yield, resulting in an 8% increase in production compared to the previous season. Weather challenges and the COVID-19 pandemic caused delays and issues, but the sector managed to find labor and maintain production with increased costs. Garlic sizes were optimal, and higher quality garlic led to higher prices, resulting in increased imports of garlic from countries like Argentina, Chile, and Peru, as importing from China faced logistical difficulties. Despite these challenges, garlic producers in Andalusia ensured their workers' health and financial support, paying above the agreed rate, ensuring their workers received wages higher than the minimum wage.
