The European avocado market is experiencing a price drop due to an oversupply of fruit and decreased demand. The average price of avocados has fallen to €1.89/kg, the first time it has been below €2.00/kg since the 2014/15 campaign, marking a 20% decrease from the average price of 2016/20. All varieties have been affected, with Hass, the most popular, down 19%. The market has been saturated with high productions from various origins and an increase in cultivation areas in countries such as Colombia, Kenya, Morocco, Israel, and South Africa. The market has also been destabilized by the large number of origins and different sizes. The production in Andalusia has been affected by heat waves and strong winds. Some farmers have withheld their produce in hopes of a market improvement, resulting in unharvested fruit at the end of the campaign.
