A total of 233,000 chickens on a laying hen farm in Oostrum, Limburg, have been diagnosed with bird flu, marking one of the largest culls to date in the Netherlands. This outbreak, along with one in Heythuysen, Limburg, where 300,000 laying hens were culled, is part of the current bird flu outbreak, the largest ever, which has affected both winter and summer months. Six other poultry farms are under investigation, and an immediate ban has been placed on the transport of animals, eggs, and manure within a 10-kilometer radius of the affected farm. The Netherlands is implementing measures to protect poultry and other bird species, including investigating vaccination options to contain the spread of the virus.
