The World Apple and Pear Association (WAPA) has predicted a 1.1% increase in apple production in the southern hemisphere for the 2024 season, totaling 4,775,530 tons, with South Africa leading the production. Conversely, pear production is expected to drop by 2.3%, with Argentina, Chile, and Australia experiencing a decline. Apple exports are projected to rise by 8%, while pear exports are likely to remain steady with 2023 figures. The WAPA Annual General Assembly also saw the election of Jeff Correa as the new president.
