The aquaculture and animal products sector in Muğla, Turkey, has seen a 65% increase in exports in the past five years, reaching 1.7 billion dollars from 1 billion. The sector, which is the world's largest producer of sea bass and sea bream in Europe and the second-largest producer of trout, exports to over 100 countries. In 2023, fisheries and aquatic products exports reached 1.679 billion dollars. The sector is working to exceed 2 billion dollars in exports by 2028, as it meets 60% of Turkey's aquatic product needs through aquaculture. Turkey was the net exporter of aquaculture products in 2023, with imports at 272 million dollars.
