Vietnam is a major player in global aquaculture, particularly in the production of shrimp, pangasius, and tilapia, with the Mekong Delta accounting for 70% of the country's total production. However, the industry faces challenges such as water usage, salinization, and polluted water. The Dutch government, along with four Top Sectors, is looking to partner with Vietnam to improve nutritional efficiency, sustainability, and disease management in aquaculture. The partnership will also focus on transforming agricultural practices in the Mekong Delta from rice cultivation to more valuable products like aquaculture and tropical fruits. The Netherlands has a long-standing collaboration with Vietnam for sustainable development in the region and has launched several initiatives to make the aquaculture chain more sustainable.
