Argentina has started exporting sterile flies of Ceratitis capitata to Bolivia and Chile to aid in pest control, positioning itself as a leading producer of this biological material in the region. The sterile flies are produced at the Santa Rosa Bioplant of the Mendoza Institute of Agricultural Health and Quality and will be provided to Bolivia to control the Mediterranean fly in the department of Cochabamba. Argentina is consolidating its position as an international leader in the production of sterile flies, a practice that is part of the National Program for the Control and Eradication of the Fruit Fly, which uses the Sterile Insect Technique to control the Mediterranean Fly.
