The ASAJA Cereals Sector in Spain has reported a significant decrease in the winter grain harvest this year, estimating it at 16 million tons, a 25 percent drop compared to the previous year. The main cause of this decrease is a dry spring, which has led to low yields and failed crops in many areas. Additionally, high storm activity and damage from wild fauna have also contributed to the losses. Despite the high insurance in the sector, the limited maximum insurable yield has resulted in lower compensation. Furthermore, the sector has highlighted the need for a solution to the prohibition of burning harvest remains, a practice that has become necessary due to the decreasing effectiveness of active ingredients and the need for pest and weed control.
